FlowSteama Vessa Series

In-vessel steam sterilisation for substrates, soils & more

Economic in-vessel substrate sterilisation systems

Stronga in-vessel sterilisation systems offer a high duty cycle for highly reliable continuous operation across a range of organic materials, including spent growing media, topsoils, mulches, green waste, excavated soil, digestate fibre, coir, peat and more. With an extremely low electrical energy requirement and low labour requirement, the static Vessa model offers the most economic substrate sanitation system available in the market for commercial, large-scale operations. Learn the benefits of the Vessa model.

High output, continuous sanitisation ✔; Modular design ✔; Scalable & expandable ✔; Semi-transportable between sites ✔; Easily set-up by the stockpile to reduce handling complexity ✔; Simple & easy to use ✔; Highly controllable with evidenced sterilisation ✔; Fully insulated vessel ✔; Flexible across a range of spent substrates (each Vessa is optimised for the material) ✔

High reliability. High duty cycle. High throughput.

Stronga in-vessel steam heat treatment systems offer a super high duty cycle, delivering consistently high capacity throughput in continuous operation (manual control also available).

The hydraulically-powered operation is simple, slow moving and powerful, offering the potential to perform across various bulk densities/moisture contents. No belts, chains or sprockets ensure long life service life (30+ years) and low maintenance utility, resulting in the most economic-to-operate substrate heat treatment system available in the market, when coupled with the well-proven, free-flowing steam generator. We have multiple machines working on various continents, each evidencing the supreme utility and transformational capability of FlowSteama.

HMI smart process control

FlowSteama Vessa is equipped with various well-proven components, including modern, self-protecting control systems with a high-resolution HMI touchscreen display, allowing instant access to key parameters with optional remote access via desktop or mobile.

Material temperature sensors located in key locations on both steam decks provide evidence that material time-at-temperature has been achieved for the required residency time. Standard Vessa control equipment includes logging, reporting and evidencing substrate pasteurisation, enabling clients to demonstrate to local certification bodies that the heat treatment process has been completed to specified parameters. This is particularly important when onward selling composts, soils and substrates, and is pertinent when the material is crossing borders to prevent international spread of disease.

FlowSteama Vessa steam pasteurisation process

(1) "Dirty" organic matter (soil, substrate, compost or other) is loaded by bucket or conveyor into the in-feed hopper (various designs available).
(2) Hot steam from the low pressure, super-heated steam boiler flows into the insulated vessel, penetrating substrate on both decks.
(3) Material temperature rises rapidly, evenly and efficiently with super-heated steam deeply penetrating the pores of the soil/substrate. The PulseWave™ motion stretches and tumbles material in the steam chamber, breaking small clods to make the material open and friable.
(4) Smart controls determine the duration of steam exposure and throughput to comply with local quality protocols. Vessa offers an audit trail, enabling you to confidently evidence that you have held the material at temperature for a stated residency time.
(5) Pasteurised soil improver or substrate self-empties from the bottom cross-feed auger onto a rising conveyor for automatic stockpiling or containerisation, or into a bunker. Separating "clean" and "dirty" sides is imperative in preventing cross-contamination.

Sanitising substrates using steam-heat

Analysing your material’s properties

There are many crucially-important variables which affect the rate of heat diffusion through the substrate, topsoil, green waste, AD fibre, compost or poultry manure. Factors to be closely analysed by our experts include the structure of substrate or soil, bulk density, organic matter percentage, moisture content and more. We encourage clients to speak to Stronga for further information relating to heat treating your organic material.

Invasive species, sterilised

The well-proven, twin-tier FlowSteama is adaptable across a wide range of soils and substrates, mixes and blends. We offer a choice of models so that the capacity, throughput and scale of Vessa and SteamBoila can be optimised for your sanitation operation. Multiple factors are considered in the design of the FlowSteama, including material-type, substrate bulk density, substrate moisture content and more. See below some of the pasteurisation/sanitation possibilities:

Woody biomass residues sterilisation ✔; Green waste sterilisation ✔; Food waste sterilisation ✔; Top soil sterilisation ✔; Compost sterilisation ✔; Mushroom compost sterilisation ✔; Bark mulch sterilisation ✔; Cocoa mulch sterilisation ✔; Coir sterilisation ✔; Organic manure sterilisation ✔; Recycled substrate sterilisation ✔; And more ✔
