The Stronga team recently interviewed Mr. Carl Johansson who, at just 26 years of age (at time of writing), impressively already runs a successful farming and contracting business just outside of Kävlinge in southern Sweden. Inheriting the company from his grand-father at the young age of 18, Carl’s hard-working farm team currently work with horse manure. What’s more, they also have a contractor branch with excavators and wheel loaders working primarily in residential housing, fieldwork and paving.
Carl’s farming business consists of approximately 50 hectares, however, they also collaborate with other farmers in the local area and in total farm an area of land between 500 to 600 hectares. As well as cereals, Carl grows potatoes and ryegrass on his farm. They sell dry hay - a commodity which has seen significantly increased demand in Sweden, of late.
A Match-Made in Hooklift-Heaven
Carl bought his 21 tonne Stronga HookLoada trailer at the beginning of 2022 and has since used it day-in, day-out in both agricultural and contracting applications. Before making the purchase, Carl had an older hook lift trailer which he bought from another brand, together with numerous other single-purporse tipper trailers. When they bought their new Stronga hooklift in 2022, Carl sold his other trailers and now couples his HookLoada with several individualised containers designed to tackle the task at hand.
From day one, it was a match made in hook-lift heaven...
Tackling Multiple Jobs with One HookLoada
With multiple containers and one HookLoada, Carl’s team currently tackle multiple jobs, including: (1) transporting grain (2) timber (3) bales and (4) horse manure. When working with horse manure, Carl’s team leave containers at the various stables and replace them when it is time for them to be emptied. In the past, cargo handling was much more resource-intensive with each emptying cycle requiring a tractor, a trailer and a wheeled loader. Now, with HookLoada; the hooklift and the tractor can do the work of many more, saving Carl on the following:
(1) Reduced capex – one hooklift trailer with containers is >66% cheaper than multiple single-purpose trailers.
(2) Reduced opex – fewer tractors, operators, fuel used and hours wasted with faster streamlined operations.
(3) Reduced maintenance – keeping several trailers roadworthy is expensive with multiplied maintenance.
(4) Reduced cycle times – ground-demountable containers deliver faster, more productive loading cycles.
(5) Reduced labour costs – no more wasted labour hours with the efficient hooklift shuttling system.
”Build Quality, Lightness & Balance”
Carl explained in our interview with him that he considers build quality, lightness and balance of his Stronga hooklift as 3 significant advantages over any trailer he, or his team, have driven previously. They have found that they can pull the hooklift with a much smaller 140 horsepower tractor whereas their previous trailers required much bigger, more expensive, fuel-hungry tractors.
Carl’s HookLoada Experience
”At ’Johanssons Maskinstation AB’, we generally drive ”shafts” with our HookLoada in the mornings and then grain in the afternoons. Owning and operating a Stronga hooklift is invaluable – it allows our team to seamlessly switch between jobs, often multiple times on the same day.
A big advantage of HookLoada is that you can steer the trailer’s rear axle via a hydraulic outlet. This function is hugely useful when we need to reverse into cramped spaces or into narrow driveways. Now our team have experienced Stronga’s CommandSteer™ system, we could never imagine not having it. It is a very useful, totally unique function of HookLoada.
Overall, I couldn’t ask for anything better; our HookLoada is simply an excellent trailer. We equipped it with the compressed air brakes and air bellows options and we are thrilled we made that decision. The trailer runs extremely smoothly on and off road.”
”We Know BPW Won’t Let Us Down”
”One final feature we love about our HookLoada trailer is that it is built on BPW axles. This means that, in a situation where our dealer doesn’t have the required parts, there are spare parts available at truck workshops local to us. Another advantage of BPW is that their axles are well-proven in other industries over many decades, not just agriculture or construction. We know they won’t let us down over many years of use.”
Mr. Johansson bought his HookLoada trailer through Stronga’s long-term local Swedish sales partner, Bröderna Göransson, who uses multiple Stronga trailers in his own business. This offered huge reassurance to Carl who explained that many other dealers do not have their own experience with the trailers they sell.
Overall, Carl is extremely satisfied with his collaboration with both Bröderna Göransson and Stronga. If you would like to start your own HookLoada journey today, contact our sales team and let us design a trailer specifically for you – sales@stronga.co.uk
